What is a Podcast?

Traditional broadcasting, or even online streaming requires that you listen in real time when the show is on the air. With podcasting, you can time-shift the show to fit your schedule... similar to the way a DVR or Tivo works for television. In order to listen to a podcast, you need the free iTunes software from Apple (works on both Windows and Macs) OR an RSS reader that supports enclosures . An RSS Reader allows you to subscribe to a feed or podcast and automatically download the latest information or audio to your computer. In the case of a podcast, you can also transfer the audio to your portable MP3 player (like an iPod) and take it with you.

You can learn more about podcasting at the following sites:

How how do I do it?

If all you want to do is listen on your computer, just use the "Podcast Player" link in the column to the right.

If you want to download the files to transfer to your mp3 player, keep reading: We've decided to recommend iTunes because it works on both Windows and Apple Macintosh computers and the latest version has built-in podcasting abilities. (It is possible to use other software and mp3 players other than iPods, but you'll need to figure out how to make that work on your own.)

  1. Download and install the free iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. If you have it already. make sure it's version 4.9 or greater.
  2. Launch iTunes and click on this link to access this podcast. You can then subscribe to the podcast (which will automatically download new shows when available) or just get an individual show.
  3. Listen to the show on your computer in iTunes, or connect your iPod and get them to go!

Why don't I see today's show?

It takes a few hours for us to get the podcast ready. You should see it in the feed shortly after noon Eastern Time.

I'm a geek and I want to do it my way!
